My four year old was out of school today and very excited to be my “e-ssistant.” Unfortunately my 11 month old was not so helpful.
We started with a book, “The Best Easter Prize.” It’s cute, and we talked about sharing and thinking of others. Then we did a number recognition “hunt.” I started with one egg and in it was a number, the first chick gave the paper with the number to another chick and they had to find the egg labeled with the matching number. There’s a better description here. I thought it would take too long to hunt an egg and check it and I figured they wouldn’t want to put back the egg if it was wrong, so I “hid” them in plain sight with the numbers showing. They were excited when they found the egg matching their number.
For snack I filled eggs with teddy grahams and some with Trix. Each chick got two eggs and a bowl. I had them “crack” open their eggs over their bowl. I think they thought that was fun.
For our last activity we did another hunt. I filled 10 eggs with different things, one with one felt butterfly, another with two shells, all the way up to ten. After they found their eggs I told them they couldn’t open it yet, we had to guess what was inside. I had them shake them and make predictions. They guessed things like candy and money. They took turns opening their eggs and counting the items inside. I had them line up their egg contents so they could see what each other had and count together.
