Italy-Day 2

The chicks greeted me with “ciaos” they had learned on monday.   We started with “Children All Over the World” and a prayer.  We looked at a map and found Italy.  We talked about it being far, vs near.  IMG_4479

I  wanted them to do some cutting and gluing so I gave them each a map and pictures of 3 landmarks.  I found a line drawing of Italy and found simple line drawings of the colosseum, the leaning tower of Pisa, and a gondola.   Venice, Pisa and Rome and kind of far apart so they had enough room to glue the landmarks down close to the cities.  IMG_4480 IMG_4481 IMG_4482

For snack we talked about Italian food, pasta, spaghetti, pizza and gelato!

I had dyed some rigatoni the night before and let them string it.  I put a little packing tape on the end of a piece of yarn to create a “needle.”  They liked it and kept busy with that for a while.  A few things, I separated the colors into 3 different bowls, they thought they each had their own bowl so they asked permission to take from each others.  (They asked nicely but the response would be “okay, but just one okay.”)  I wish I had just put them all in one container, or made more or less colors, not 3 since there are 3 chicks!  I didn’t dye a lot of pasta, (I wasn’t sure how it would come out) so I should have made more, or I should have cut their yarn shorter so that they wouldn’t need so much.  All in all it was good though.  IMG_4485 IMG_4486 IMG_4490

I have a bin of dried lentils and we add plastic animals, this is a great, no prep activity.  They hide and find animals or princesses.IMG_4491

We had bow tie pasta with broccoli and alfredo sauce for lunch, they kept asking for pizza:  ).  Oh and I had grapes which was also appropriate.  When I was looking for ideas one blog said they let the kids step on grapes to make juice.  That would have been so fun!  It sounds like more mess than I wanted to deal with and I’m not sure how good the juice would have been, so I didn’t do it.  I had the girls come in red, white or green and at the end we made an Italian flag.  Arrivederchi!IMG_4494
